Chippy chops its prices after fish win

Paul Barker

A competition win has enabled a Congleton chippy to celebrate its 40th anniversary in style - by giving half price fish and chips to their loyal customers.

Val Simpson, of Green Island Chippy on Willow Street, was amazed to receive a phone call from a fishmonger telling her she had won 250 fish last week.

It came as Val and partner Paul Barker, were thinking of ways to celebrate 40 years of their family business. Val said: "We wanted to give something back to everyone who has supported us on our anniversary."

"I was very surprised to hear about winning the fish. I spent a day trying to find out where they had come from but no-one knew."

"It's great that we can share our good fortune."

While stocks last, chippy fans can get their fish and chips for £2 instead of £4.

The shop's specialist gluten-free coeliac battered fish and chips, which are usually £4.90, are also to be sold at £2.
