All in the mix ...
Batter remains a matter of matching the right product with specific customer preferences ...

Newcomer
The new rival meanwhile is Gluten Free Batter Mix from The Traditional English Fish and Chip Company. Again the move came from inspiration from the trade, in this case from Paul Barker and Val Simpson of Green Island Chippy in Congleton. The pair developed a gluten free batter mix and also had a bespoke one-pan range specially made for thsir shop so that they could offer gluten-free everyday.
"When you provide such a service, not only do you attract the person suffering from coeliac disease but they purchase for the whole family so the market opportunity is much greater than at first thought," says Val.
Approval
The new product has been tested and approved by Coeliac UK and so carries its Crossed Grain symbol. Now available in 5 * 1kg bags (retailing at about £5.95 per Kilo), it is supported by posters, with information and advice on offering gluten-free available on a special website www.batterbox.co.uk.
